Harder timbers usually possesses a richer colour than soft wood timbers. The most popular species of hard woods for decking in Perth include, Merbau, Jarrah and Batu.
A quality Hardwood will resist all kinds of wear and tear when it is properly maintained and looked after. It is recommended that hardwood be seasoned (usually kiln dried).

Treated Pine has many attractive features about it. Pine has a lighter tone which is very attractive when oiled with a high gloss natural pigment product.
Not only is it different from the normal darker colour options of Hardwood timbers, it showcases its timber grains beautifully and you can get a lot less joins in your deck due to the large supply available.

Washing your decks surface prior to applying a quality oil or stain will remove dirt and grime that has found its way into the grains of the timber.
It will also allow the coat of oil or stain to penetrate the surface better giving you a superior and more even finish.
In some instances where you deck has not been regularly maintained it could be a good option to sand the decking surface. Washing it and then applying your preferred finish.
This will bring your timber back to life, revealing its original natural beauty.
It is a common misconception that your deck only requires to be oiled once or twice a year.
The first time you oil or stain your deck, apply as many coats as required to give it a glossy and waxy finish.
